Flight training

You may be eligible to use your benefits for flight training if you meet all of the requirements listed here.

You must qualify for one of these education benefits:

• Post-9/11 GI Bill, or
• Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty, or
• Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve

And all of these must be true:

• You have a private pilot’s license, and
• On the day you enroll in flight training, you hold a second-class medical certificate valid for second-class privileges—or a first-class medical certificate if you want to pursue the Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, and
• Your part 141 pilot school or your part 142 training center is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under title 14, and
• Your flight program is approved for VA education benefits

Note: If you’re using VA education benefits through Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA), you can’t get flight training at a pilot school or training center.
